Old Italians Get The Ultimate High-Performance Radiator

The Fiat X1/9 is a two-seater, targa top, small Italian sports car with a mid-engine configuration pumping out 74 horse-power. The X1/9 was hot during its prime in the ’70s and ’80s, a “go-to” choice for young sports car enthusiasts. Popularity quickly grew as the vehicle performed extraordinarily well in slalom and hill climb races. Originally designed by car manufacturer Bertone, it was initially made as a Fiat model until 1982. Fiat then handed production of the car back to Bertone, who continued to produce the compact sports car until 1989. They have not been forgotten and are still quite the classic collectible car for automotive enthusiasts. For those still enjoying their X1/9 for track use, weekend cruising, or even daily driving, maintaining the vehicle with adequate cooling is key to having these classic cars stay on the road. More and more OEM copper/brass radiators are failing, leaving owners scrambling for a reliable replacement. Until now, most (if not all) after-market options available are not built to a high standard, and often prematurely fail after only a few years, some failing within a few months after install.

CSF is proud to introduce another industry exclusive to its growing line of “Classic Series” radiators. An All Aluminum Replacement Radiator, yet still high performance, for the Mercedes Benz R129 SL500 5.0L V8 – CSF#8057. These over-engineered German sports cars from the ’90s were technically advanced for their time, and have now entered the “collectible” realm of car enthusiasts across the globe. With fitment spanning a 12-year range from 1990-2002, and some of these early model vehicles now nearing close to 30 years old, the factory radiators with plastic end-tanks need to be replaced.

CSF’s NEW Dual Pass (Cross-flow) Universal Heat Exchanger (CSF#8030)
More and more fabricators and vehicle builders are opting to add horsepower through liquid-to-air intercoolers (charge coolers). Upgrading from the common and traditional air-to-air front mount intercooler system. In a liquid-to-air intercooler system, the air is cooled by a liquid, typically water. These systems require a supplemental heat exchanger (i.e. radiator) to cool the liquid running through the intercooler. These types of heat exchangers are usually front mounted and/or accessible to fresh-air-flow.
