With examples of the SL600, SL 70, SL 72, and SL 73 fetching over $100,000 these days, owners are more discerning than ever with upkeep. Unfortunately, like many classic cars, the original factory components are either extremely hard to find or no longer available. The radiator is one of these parts that was discontinued by Mercedes.
CSF and the team at RENNTech teamed up to engineer a solution. The result is a drop-in fit, all-aluminum replacement that looks OE, but has all the benefits of a modern radiator. When quality and performance are the top priority, CSF delivers the ultimate cooling solution.
RENNTech is regarded as the premier Mercedes-Benz specialist in North America and the foremost authority in Mercedes tuning. When the original SL600 radiator (129-500-10-03) was discontinued by Mercedes, they turned to the cooling experts at CSF for a solution. This radiator was not only found in the SL600, but also in the SL 72/70/73 AMG versions, as well as the coach built RENNTech SL 74 and SL 76.
Key Design Features:
- 15-20% increase in heat transfer efficiency using CSF's Exclusive B-Tube Technology.
- Improved cooling performance regulates heat in adverse conditions and hard driving.
- TIG-Welded 100% All Aluminum construction offers incredible durability and longevity vs the factory plastic tank design.
- Drop-in fit installation using the factory mounting points, fan, and shroud.
- Satin black end tanks with an uncoated aluminum core for an OE look and feel.

Design & Engineering
RENNTech is regarded as the premier Mercedes-Benz specialist in North America and the foremost authority in Mercedes tuning. When the original SL600 radiator (129-500-10-03) was discontinued by Mercedes, they turned to the cooling experts at CSF for a solution. This radiator was not only found in the SL600, but also in the SL 72/70/73 AMG versions, as well as the coach built RENNTech SL 74 and SL 76.
RENNTech restores and builds these cars in house for clients around the world. They offer the highest level of service and quality for all of their products. Those same values are shared by CSF offering the highest quality cooling systems in the world.
When designing the radiator, CSF and RENNTech knew there were several important features that the R129 SL community would be looking for: Better performance, improved reliability, and an OE Fit & Finish.
RENNTECH by CSF vs OEM
The original R129 SL600 / SL 70 / SL 72 / SL 73 radiator from Mercedes-Benz featured an aluminum core crimped onto plastic end tanks. While generally accepted as good quality and durable, this design is significantly weaker than the all-aluminum TIG welded design of the RENNTech by CSF Radiator.

The CSF Advantage
The RENNTech by CSF radiator features 6.5mm multi-louvered fins. These fins significantly increase the heat exchange surface area improving overall cooling efficiency and recovery while improving airflow over the 6mm OE fins. CSF was able to maintain the same tube and fin row count as the OE unit with a larger fin height due to the shorter but more efficient 2-Row B-Tubes. These features improve the core's ability to dissipate heat while being more structurally robust.
CSF's Exclusive B-Tube Technology increases the heat transfer by approximately 15% over regular oval welded tubes. In addition, the super-efficient multi-louvered fins maximize airflow through the core for the best possible performance.
All Aluminum Construction
The combination of TIG-Welded 100% All Aluminum construction increases the overall strength of the radiator. This improves durability and longevity so you can be confident it will hold up to hard driving conditions. This includes the 90° overflow pipe which is plastic on the OE unit. This pipe is known to crack on the original radiator requiring a full replacement. The All-Aluminum construction removes this weak point.
Like most plastic OE aluminum radiators, the original units are prone to a variety of other issues due to plastic deterioration over time. The plastic from the tanks and hose fittings start to break down after a few years and the bond to the cores generally won't last more than 10-12 years of regular use.
Built-in Transmission Oil Cooler
The CSF radiator also features a 5-plate transmission oil cooler built into the right-hand side end tank. It utilizes the OE (M14 x 1.5 Inlet and Outlet) connections for a seamless installation.
RENNTech by CSF Performance
This radiator was designed to fit exactly like the OE unit, even down to the color scheme to mimic the original as best as possible. While most SL600's and AMG variants aren't known for cooling issues, they can overheat and heatsoak while sitting in traffic or during hard driving in hot environments. The modern 2-Row CSF core gives the cooling system more headroom for adverse conditions.
The additional cooling capacity is even more valuable for the larger displacement versions of the M120 V12. The 7.1L and 7.3L AMG engines produce over 500 hp, while RENNTech's 7.4L engine found in the SL 74 produces around 570 hp, and their latest 7.6L found in the new SL 76 puts out over 600 hp. All of these engines produce significantly more heat than the 6.0L (394 hp) powerplant. The RENNTech by CSF Radiator was designed and built to handle the heat from all of the R129's V12s.

Industry Exclusive Direct Replacement
The RENNTech by CSF SL 600 Radiator is an industry inclusive item. It is the only radiator available to replace the OE 129-500-10-03. This is a Plug-and-Play "Drop-in Fit" replacement utilizing the factory shrouds and brackets which will line up and bolt on perfectly. Each radiator is individually inspected and leak/pressure tested before leaving the CSF factory for the highest level of quality control.
