The original CSF x Son of Cobra 2002 / 1602 High-Performance All-Aluminum Radiator featured a 1-Row 31mm core in order to clear the OE Clutch Style fan. While it did outperform the OE radiator by a significant amount, it did not offer as much cooling capacity that some engine swaps demand.
Paul Lefevre (Son of Cobra) worked with CSF to develop a version with a large core specially for swap and high horsepower 2002/1602 builds. The result is the best possible thermal management under all driving conditions.

Design & Engineering
CSF teamed up with BMW 2002 expert Paul Lefevre (Son of Cobra), to develope this new radiator. Son of Cobra is widely regarded as the #1 restomod shop for BMW 2002s, building some of the most stunning examples in the world. With his help, CSF was able to incorporate some unique design features that offer more options to customers looking for an upgrade. His latest customer builds now feature this new CSF radiator.
CSF vs OEM
The original OE radiator from BMW is a brass tank with a copper core design. While this was good quality and durable at the time, heat exchanger technology has progressed significantly over the decades since these cars were released. There have been several OEM alternatives available, but their plastic tank and aluminum core design were marginal in quality and performance at best. Older performance vehicles require the best possible cooling systems and can greatly benefit from improved cooling efficiency. Anyone who has restored/updated a classic car knows the value of having updated parts that are as efficient as possible.
Core Upgrade
The original CSF Radiator (#7225/#7225B) featured a 1-Row 31mm core in order to clear the OE Clutch Style fan. The new CSF x Son of Cobra radiator features a 2-Row 42mm aluminum core that further increases the fluid capacity of the radiator, and improves the cores ability to dissipate heat. CSF's Exclusive B-Tube Technology increases the heat transfer by approximately 15% over regular oval welded tubes.
While the 6.5mm fins of the previous version performed extremely well, CSF always seeks to offer the ultimate cooling solution. This radiator features CSF's newest "Track-Spec" 5mm ultra efficient fins with a multi-louvered design that maximizes surface area contact and heat dissipation. The radiator mounts in the factory location and requires no modifications or cutting, but is not compatible with the factory mechanical fan.
The TIG-Welded 100% All Aluminum construction increases the overall strength of the radiator. This improves durability and longevity so you can be confident the CSF radiator will keep your BMW cool for a long time.

Inlet Options
With the new radiator design, CSF added a second inlet location on the top tank. This allows for a wider variety of hose configurations and simplifies routing. The included hose fitting and plug can be swapped to either side of the top tank.
Push or Pull Fan
CSF includes adjustable mounting brackets that allow the end user to install a Push style electric fan on the front side of the radiator if desired. The radiator cannot be used with the OE clutch puller fan. The push style electric fan is compatible with A/C Systems. The brackets are designed to work with an 11" SPAL Fan #30100365.
