EMPI has collaborated with the high-performance cooling experts at CSF to deliver a new benchmark in air-cooled performance for your Type 1/Type 2 Single Relief Case Non Doghouse or Porsche 356 and 912.
Lower oil temperatures are crucial for air-cooled engines like those in VW and Porsche models because they rely solely on the circulation of oil to regulate engine temperature. Lower temperatures help maintain oil viscosity, ensuring better lubrication, reduced engine wear, and extended engine life. By upgrading to the CSF/EMPI Super Kooler, you're not just enhancing the performance and efficiency of your cooling system, but also investing in the longevity and reliability of your air-cooled engine. This is a critical consideration for any classic car enthusiast looking to maintain optimal performance in their vintage VW or Porsche.
Based on the design principles of the CSF #8242 911 Oil Cooler, the EMPI Super Kooler features CNC Billet Aluminum end tanks with a robust Bar/Plate Core. The Titanium color Thermal Heat Dispersion Cerakote finish is durable, improves heat dissipation, is anti-corrosive, and offers a very classy OEM+ look to the cooler.
Product Details
This EMPI Exclusive "Super Kooler" offers best-in-class features and capabilities designed to deliver a new benchmark in air-cooled performance for your Type 1/Type 2.
Design & Engineering
The original single relief case (non doghouse) oil cooler was designed back in the 1950s and definitely shows its age at this point. While there are plenty of cheap aftermarket options for the Type 1/Type 2 VWs and Porsche 356/912, they offer no improvement in performance or durability. CSF worked closely with EMPI to ensure this oil cooler would exceed the original design in every aspect.
Attention To Detail
The goal for the EMPI "Super Kooler" was to recreate the original cooler with a modern interpretation of the design while improving functionality and reliability. To accomplish this, CSF spent many hours in development, leveraging all the experience from the wildly successful 911 air-cooled products.
Improving upon a design starts with understanding the system as a whole. Every detail of the cooler was analyzed from core strength to oil flow restrictions. 3D scanning of Type 1 and Type 2 engine blocks and OE Coolers gave CSF the ability to ensure optimal fitment and see what room there was for improvements.
New to the Core
The CSF units utilize a modern and robust bar and plate core specifically designed for this cooler. This new core has higher flow, less pressure drop, and is more durable than the original design. Each core is pressure tested to 120psi (8.3 bar) before assembly.
Billet Base and Top Plate
Because the base plate of the cooler is also a common problem area, CSF and EMPI sought to improve this area as much as possible. Instead of the original cast design, the CSF cooler uses a CNC machined billet aluminum plate. This offers a perfectly flat mounting surface which is both stronger and more resistant to warping over time.
The O-Ring recesses are CNC milled into the billet for a perfect fit and seal. There is nothing worse than getting your engine put together only to find a minor oil leak at the O-Rings between the block and the oil cooler. You can now confidently install your oil cooler knowing you will not get any leaks from improper O-Ring seating.
Fits VW and Porsche Models
CSF used a modular stud design to allow for more fitment applications. The oil cooler comes with studs, nuts, washers, sleeves, and nuts for all applications.
Thermal Heat Dispersion Cerakote
The cooler comes in a Titanium color Thermal Heat Dispersion Cerakote finish. This advanced finish is durable, improves heat dissipation, is anti-corrosive, and offers a very classy OEM+ look to the cooler. A modern upgrade over the original.
