The S63 4.4L Twin Turbo V8 in the BMW F1X M5/M6 is an absolute monster that responds incredibly well to bolt-on upgrades, larger turbos, and performance tuning. Tuners quickly found that increasing power on the S63 pushed charge air temperatures past the OEM Charge-Air-Coolers' limits resulting in dangerously high Intake Air Temperatures (IATs). Pure turbos approached CSF to develop a Charge-Air-Cooler upgrade that would hold up to the extreme boost levels their turbos upgrades could generate and keep the car's IATs in check. The result was the World's 1st Cast End Tank Designed High-Performance Charge-Air-Cooler Set for the F1X M5/M6. CSF used CFD analysis and testing to create the largest charge-air-cooler that could fit in the factory location. The Top/Bottom, Cross-Flow, Dual-Pass Cores are 28% larger than the factory coolers and offer significant reductions in IATs at increased boost levels.
The CSF #8109 Twin Charge-Air-Cooler Set comes with a Professional "Crinkle Black" Powder-Coated Finish. It is also available in Raw Aluminum with Options for Custom Powder-Coating Available (CSF #8109R)

Design & Engineering
CSF teamed up with Pure Turbos to bring you the World's 1st Cast End Tank Designed High-Performance Charge-Air-Cooler Set for the BMW F1X M5/M6. Utilizing cuttingedge CFD Analysis and Testing, CSF designed a custom Liquid-To-Air Intercooler Core to ensure optimal performance.
OEM vs CSF
CSF was able to increase the Charge-Air-Cooler cores by 28% on each side. A Top to Bottom, Cross-Flow, Dual Pass configuration offers vastly superior cooling capacity compared to stock. In testing, Intake Air Temperatures (IATs) were 14°C lower with the CSF coolers compared to stock despite ambient temperatures being 6°C higher during the CSF test session.

It is common to see a slight drop in boost pressure when moving to larger Charge-Air-Coolers (or intercoolers). Any potential downside of this is generally offset by the increased flow and lower IATs. The CSF coolers saw just under a 1 PSI pressure drop which is very impressive.
Metric at 4800rpm | OEM | CSF |
---|---|---|
Ambient Temp | 16°C (61°F) | 22°C (72°F) |
IAT | 37.6°C (100°F) |
23.8°C (75°F)
|
Boost Pressure | 21.1 PSI | 20.2 PSI |
CSF also incorporated Water/Methanol Injection Ports into the end tanks for additional tuning capabilities.

OEM vs CSF testing with Methanol Injection

3rd Party Validation from"Some logs with the Pure/CSF. I can very certainly state that it cools way better than the OEM unit. I don't have any airflow validation yet until I run on the dyno but it definitely cools the intake charge much better.
If you look at any pre-IC log (with or without meth)⌠and I selected meth-enabled logs (as that's what I have the most of)...IATs usually increase over the course of a pull. With the upgraded IC's the IATs actually decrease (significantly) over the course of a pull. I have logs at similar boost levels (~25psi) and you can clearly see the difference.
Even without meth flowing (post-IC injection) the IATs drop over the course of a pull. Now I don't have a true 1/2 mile or 1/4 mile type distance log, but I do anticipate a significant improvement."

Custom Color Options, From the Leader in BMW Cooling Customization
CSF has become the industry leader and innovator of custom finished cooling products. We first started with our most popular BMW S55 Charge-Air Cooler, then expanded to other BMW models such as our F1X M5/M6 and best selling B58 Charge-Air Cooler systems. Most of the same custom finishes can be ordered on CSF #8109R.
- These Charge-Air-Coolers cannot be anodized
- CSF is not responsible for warranties for Coolers coated by anyone other than CSF
- Lead time is 3-4 weeks depending on finish selection
Thermal Dispersion Black

CSF's most popular custom finish, Thermal Black Heat Dispersion Cerakote is available as a custom finish option.
Thermal Dispersant/Dispersion Coatings are submicron coatings with extremely high thermal conductivity. Due to their density and chemical composition they offer highly efficient heat transfer. In the case of a coated heat exchanger like an intercooler, the higher thermal conductivity of the coating helps draw heat to the surface of the part.
These coatings are limited to Black or Grey colors but offer the best performance. For more details on Thermal Dispersion Coatings, visit our article explaining the how they work and the performance benefits.

CSF offers the widest variety of custom finishes in the industry. From color matched powder coating to high tech Thermal Dispersion Coatings, the options are limitless.
Powder Coating: Powder coating is available in almost any color imaginable with finish options ranging from full gloss to crinkle texture. You can even opt for accent colors, different colors for certain components like fuel rails (when applicable).
DLC (Diamond Like Coating): DLC Coating stands for diamond-like carbon coating, and is a nanocomposite coating that has unique properties of natural diamond low friction, high hardness, and high corrosion resistance. These coatings are the most expensive available, but can offer some very unique finish options that will provide the greatest durability.
