Dual Engine Oil Cooler Kit

The initial challenge when designing this engine oil cooler kit was two fold. Firstly, the K20C1 did not come with any type of external engine oil cooler provision. The second challenge was space in which to mount an external engine oil cooler(s). The front bumper opening already has the Intercooler, A/C Condenser, and Radiator stacked there and using most of the available air.

While mounting an additional cooler behind the grill is the simple option, that just adds more heat to the full system and takes away from the cooling capacity of the radiator. On top of that, most owners who track their cars will have an upgraded/larger intercooler which further compounds the issue. That means the sides of the bumper are the obvious and optimal placement. However, the FL5 does not have great airflow in that area. To improve airflow, CSF needed to design a ducting/inlet system that would allow proper airflow for optimal performance.

With proper airflow handled, CSF built the kit around our compact universal oil coolers (CSF #8119), using two of them to offer the greatest cooling capacity possible. Paired with Superstrasse CPE lined stainless steel braided lines and DYME Pro/Spec Quick Release Fittings, this kit is the most serviceable kit on the market.

PRL Billet Intercooler

This kit utilizes billet 6061 aluminum end tanks with integrated mounting brackets, factory-fitment flanges, and a high-density tube and fin intercooler core (first iteration used a bar-and-plate core). The CSF sourced core (28.2"x7.25"x4.25") allows for a ~10% increase in frontal surface area and a ~28% increase in potential airflow volume overtop of the PRL FK8 Intercooler Upgrade. By removing the factory air guides, the PRL intercooler assembly was able to be pushed even farther forward and includes new air guides for maximum airflow.

High-Performance All-Aluminum Radiator

CSF has a long and successful track record with Honda cooling systems. This history includes making factory radiators for Honda Performance Development (HPD). Honda utilized the CSF private label HPD Race Radiator for the FK8 Civic Type R TCR and recently took delivery of a new system CSF developed for the FL5.

CSF used the information and experience from building this Race Radiator to design a High-Performance version that would be available to the masses. Like the racing radiator, this new High-Performance version features CSF's latest 5mm fin cooling technology. The new fin design increases the heat transfer area of the radiator by 20-25% over other larger fin designs.
