( CSF #8334 )
When it comes to the Porsche 911, few generations stir as much passion and controversy as the 964 and 993. These two generations represent the final chapters of the air-cooled era. Porsche did their best to bridge the gap between classic design and modern performance. However, there were some challenges that were definitely hard to overcome.
Both the 964 and 993 ran hotter than earlier air-cooled 911s for a variety of reasons. Increased performance output, new emissions regulations, and limited space in the engine bay were all contributing factors. Porsche was definitely stretching the limits of air/oil cooling. Especially given the cooling technology and design of that day and age.
Following the incredible success and enthusiastic response to the CSF 911/930 Turbo Fender Oil Cooler (#8168), CSF has expanded its Porsche performance lineup with a modern OEM+ upgrade for the last of the air-cooled 911s. Introducing the all-new CSF OEM+ Performance Engine Oil Cooler for the Porsche 964 and 993.
Design & Engineering
To develop a truly modern cooling solution for the 964 and 993, CSF once again partnered with Porsche engine building and restoration experts at SV Auto. Their deep expertise in engine restoration and air-cooled performance provided CSF with key insights that shaped the design of this next-gen cooler. Leveraging technology from the best selling G-Body Engine Oil Cooler (a project that took over 18 months and a $20,000+ R&D investment) this new cooler brings the best modern engineering to the 911.
Engineered to fit seamlessly into concours-winning restorations, this CSF oil cooler retains a factory-style look while delivering cutting-edge performance and technology. Whether you’re restoring a classic 964/993, building a high-horsepower restomod, or prepping a car for the track, this is the ultimate OEM+ and performance cooling upgrade for your 911.
Trusted by World Renown Shops & Builders
Pfaff Tuning has been working with the 964 platform to pursue true OEM+ perfection since 2012. They have created a unique Bespoke program aimed at delivering the ultimate driving and ownership experience for 964 enthusiasts. Their expert team handles everything from standard maintenance to full restorations and custom builds. Pfaff Tuning uses only genuine OEM Porsche parts or the highest quality aftermarket upgrades like the CSF OEM+ Performance Oil Cooler.
First impressions of unboxing the cooler were of the high level of quality. Fitment was no different. All the OEM lines, shroud and hardware fit perfectly in place as if the cooler was OEM. We look forward to using these coolers on all our 964 project cars going forward. Using any oil cooler other than CSF just makes no sense.

CSF vs OEM
The original Längerer & Reich oil cooler for the Porsche 964 and 993 was designed back in the 1980s. While it was cutting-edge at the time, it has definitely started to show its age. Even though OEM replacements are still available through the Porsche Classic program, they are built with the same outdated technology and materials as they were 30+ years ago. Replacing a clogged or failing unit with a OEM cooler may fix the immediate issues, but it won’t deliver any real improvement in performance or reliability.
Key Features
The new CSF oil cooler for the 964 and 993 is a true OEM+ upgrade, engineered with modern cooling technology. Its advanced core offers multiple advantages over the original tube and fin design:
- Innovative Rolled Fin Design – Stronger/more durable and Less Clogging
- Wider air passages for improved flow
- 10% Increase in airflow
- 16% Larger Core Volume
- 6% Increase in Heat Dissipation
- No change in oil pressure vs OEM
Clogged Core on OEM Cooler vs CSF Cooler
Feature | CSF | OEM |
---|---|---|
Core Length x Height | 269 mm L x 255.6 mm H | 268 mm L x 244 mm H |
Core Thickness | 50mm | 44mm |
Core Volume | 3438 cc | 2877 cc |

Core Material | Aluminum | Aluminum |
Tank Material | Aluminum | Aluminum |
Construction | 100% TIG Welded | Brazed |
The TIG-Welded 100% All Aluminum construction increases the overall strength of the oil cooler. This improves durability and longevity so you can be confident it will hold up to hard driving conditions. It is designed to be a “drop-in fit” solution; mounting in the factory location, working seamlessly with the original fan and A/C condenser, and requiring no modifications or cutting. CSF also improved the design of fan shroud mounting locations for easier installation.
M30 x 1.5 High-Flow Fittings
CSF drew additional inspiration from its proven 911/930 Turbo Fender Oil Cooler (#8168), incorporating similarly engineered Widemouth fittings. These precision machined, threaded M30 “Widemouth” fittings are designed with an optimized inner diameter (ID) to dramatically improve oil flow.
These fittings deliver up to 50% greater flow capacity compared to OEM connections. Each stainless steel fitting is crafted in-house for superior strength, durability, and long-term reliability under pressure. To ensure a perfect, leak-free seal, CSF pre-installs the fittings with high-quality copper crush washers.
Premium Packaging
Each cooler is packaged in a premium box with laser cut foam inserts. You can be confident your oil cooler is protected and secure as it is shipped.
An Upgrade for everyone
Whether you’re restoring a 993 or 964, building a high-performance restomod, or just upgrading for peace of mind, the CSF oil cooler delivers the durability and cooling performance your engine deserves.
